Lake Bonavista was developed by E.V. Keith’s Keith Construction from the late 1960s and was the first community in Canada built around a man-made lake. Most homes are single-detached (about 81% in the 2021 Census), with some row houses and low-rise apartments, and most were built between 1961 and 1980. The community centres on the 52-acre lake and its private park, run by the Lake Bonavista Homeowners Association; a second, 35-acre lake, Lake Bonaventure, is reached only from the homes around it.
