Midnapore grew from the historic hamlet of Midnapore, annexed by Calgary in 1961; suburban development followed the creation of Lake Midnapore in 1976. About half the homes are single-detached, with semi-detached homes, row houses and low-rise apartments making up the rest (2021 Census).
